Have You Been Side Eyeing Your Light Bill?
I have! Staying home has its benefits. I meannnn you limit your chances of catching COVID, you decrease your gas bill, but that electric bill needs work.
Oh my! Every time I open it, I am like this bill #IsNotPurseEmpowerment!
It turns out I am not alone in looking at my bill, and thinking, “What is going on here?” So, here are some adjustments that I have been making this month to save myself some money when it comes to my utility bill.
#1 – Keeping my thermostat at 75 degrees
#2 – Using my dishwasher as opposed to washing dishes by hand
#3 – Instead, of popping the food right into the refrigerator after serving dinner. I allow it to cool down. I read that when you put the food in when it is hot, the refrigerator starts to work harder to cool the food down.
#4 – Setting a calendar reminder to change my filter every 30 days. When the filters are murkier, the AC works harder.
#5 – I’ve been making sure that my pot actually matches the burner size. Because, if the pot is bigger than the burner research says that you are wasting 40% of the heat that the burner is generating.
#6 – I also have what I call CovidClothes. I only go to the grocery store these days. So, not only has this eliminated my dry-cleaning bill, it has also caused me to alter my wardrobe. I rotate the same wash and wear dresses every 5 days.
I hand wash them and allow them to air dry. So, this is reducing the amount of loads I need to launder and reducing my electricity bill because I do not put as many things in the dryer anymore.
So, that’s my list! I hope at least one of these items, if not all, assisted you in reducing your electrical bill next month.
