Do You Believe That The Relationship You Have With Food Impacts Your Relationship With Money?
If we ate all the lies people feed us, we would starve, so we eat cucumbers instead! Righhht?
I have to be honest with you. I don’t like half the stuff I eat. I am a #MiamiGirl. I grew up on collard greens and cornbread. And, if I’m honest, I have had a few bowls of chiterlings (chitlins), whichever pronunciation you prefer. I did away with chitlins in my diet in college. However, I still eat collard greens, just minus the fatback.
Anyways, in my new diet I view food as fuel. So, while I do not like most of the food that I eat, the basis of my selection is, “How will this fuel my body?”
Cucumbers are:
-Great for muscle pain
-Contain lots of water
-Promote kidney health
-Improve hydration, digestion and blood pressure.
But, Shani what does any of this have to do with making more money, or managing the money I already have? Well, we are what we eat, right? And, with COVID-19 looming about, it is really easy to just move your bed next to the refrigerator and just have at it.
Here’s the thing: Once I eat a bunch of carbs, sugar, bread, rice, Talenti ice cream, a few pink starburst, and more Talenti ice cream, I crash and my creativity goes down the drain. Next thing I know I’m on Amazon.
Seriously! I too can get sucked into boredom and overeating. And, before you know it, one poor eating decision begets a poor spending decision. Often, how we do anything becomes how we do everything!
So, this week all I want you to do is buy a bowl to put some fruit of your choice in and sit it on your kitchen table or next to your refrigerator. Send me a picture for added accountability.
One gooood habit change will create another. And, if you don’t trust me on this, here is a snippet from a study that I reviewed while taking a class at Yale. The course is called ‘The Science Of Well Being.’
Here is what the research (https://medicine.yale.edu/news-article/18769/) said positioning healthy food choices at eye level did to improve the participants’ mood. And, you know if something improves your mood, it will improve your money. Accept it, your mood and your money are friends!
